जिसमें हम दुनिया को आनन्द बाँटते हैं उसको कहते हैं त्यौहार, जो आत्मा को आनन्द देने वाला होता है उसे कहते हैं पर्व। त्यौहार में जोड़ना होता हैं और पर्व में छोड़ना होता है।

That in which we share joy with the world is called a festival (tyohar); that which gives joy to the soul is called a holy occasion (parva). In a festival there is acquiring, and in a parva there is renouncing.
