सम्यक्त्व से रहित ध्यान दुःख का ही खजाना है, तप का फल सन्ताप मात्र है, स्वाध्याय भी बन्धन है, अज्ञानी जनों के इन्द्रिय निग्रह भी अच्छा फल देने वाले नहीं हैं, अनुपम दान, ब्रह्मचर्य निश्चय से श्री को देने वाले नहीं हैं, तथा तीर्थादि की यात्रा भी पूर्ण फल नहीं देती है, सभी कार्य अन्तर्गड़ु अर्थात् भीतर से सारहीन होते हैं अतः सम्यक्त्व प्राप्त करने का पुरुषार्थ करना चाहिए।

Without right-faith, meditation is but a store of sorrow, the fruit of austerity is mere affliction, and even self-study is bondage; the sense-restraint of the ignorant yields no good fruit; unmatched charity and celibacy do not surely bring prosperity, and even pilgrimage does not give full fruit — all such acts are hollow at the core. Therefore one should exert effort to attain right-faith.
