व्यन्तर ने सेठ से अपनी पूजा का आग्रह किया, सेठ ने मना कर दिया, उसने कहा हम तुम्हारे लड़के को मार डालेंगे, सेठ ने कहा आयु पूर्ण हुए बिना कोई नहीं मरता, दुर्भाग्य से लड़का मर गया, व्यन्तर ने कुछ दिन बाद फिर कहा हमारी पूजा करो नहीं तो दूसरे लड़के को ले जायेंगे, सेठ ने कहा- हमको ले चलो हम तुम्हारी पूजा नहीं कर रहे हैं, लड़के ने क्या बिगाड़ा है, देव ने क्षमा माँगी, कोई किसी का कुछ नहीं कर सकता, अतः हमें भय और लोभ से भी व्यन्तरादि की पूजा नहीं करना चाहिए।

A vyantara deity insisted a merchant worship him; the merchant refused. The deity threatened to kill his son; the merchant said no one dies before his lifespan is complete — yet unluckily the boy died. Days later the deity again demanded worship or he would take the second son too. The merchant said, 'Take me instead — I will not worship you; what fault is the boy's?' The deity begged forgiveness. No one can do anything to anyone; therefore we must not worship vyantaras and the like even out of fear or greed.
