कर्मों की गति- श्रीकृष्ण जी ने जब कंस को मार डाला तो उसकी स्त्री जीवद्यशा प्रतिनारायण पद के धारी अपने पिता जरासन्ध के पास गयी और उससे कहा कि आपके रहते हुये कंस जैसा पति और चाणूर जैसा पहलवान कृष्ण ने मार डाला, इतना सुनते ही जरासन्ध की क्रोधाग्नि प्रज्वलित हो गयी, तब जरासन्ध ने अपने बेटे को यादव कुल के नष्ट करने को कहा, तो कृष्ण का सामना करते हुए वह मारा गया, पुन: जरासन्ध ने अपने छोटे भाई अपराजित को आदेश दिया, कृष्णजी से युद्ध में वह भी मारा गया, अब जरासन्ध स्वयं यादवों को नष्ट करने की बुद्धि से निकला, इस बात का समाचार वसुदेव और समुद्रविजय आदि को मिला, तो इन सब ने जरासन्ध की शक्ति का विचार करते हुए मथुरा नगरी को छोड़कर जङ्गलों में रहने का निश्चय किया, चूँकि नेमिनाथजी का जन्म हो चुका था, फिर भी इनको मथुरा छोड़कर जाना पड़ा, जिस स्थान पर यादव वंशी छिपे हुए थे, उसी रास्ते से जरासन्ध अपनी सेना लेकर निकल रहा था, तब यादव लोग भी युद्ध की तैयारी करने लगे कि अब सामने आये शत्रु का सामना करना है, इस बुद्धि से समुद्रविजय, उग्रसेन, वसुदेव आदि दसों भाई युद्ध को तैयार हुये एक देव ने आकर सैकड़ों जलती हुयी चितायें विक्रिया से दिखा दीं और वह देव वृद्धा माँ का रूप बनाकर रोने लगा, जरासन्ध ने इन जलती हुयी चिताओं को देखकर पूँछा! कि ये चिताएँ किसकी जल रही हैं और आप क्यों रो रही हो, तब वृद्धा ने कहा कि यादव वंशी राजा मथुरा छोड़कर इस जङ्गल में आपके भय से छिप गये थे, लेकिन आपका यहाँ आगमन हो गया, इसलिए सभी यादव इनमें जलकर मर गये, इनमें मेरा पति भी मर गया है, मैं यादव वंशीय राजाओं की दासी हूँ, मुझसे अग्नि में प्रवेश नहीं किया गया है इसलिए में रो रही हूँ, इस प्रकार का समाचार सुनकर जरासन्ध अपने नगर वापस चला गया, उधर श्री नेमिनाथजी और कृष्णजी के प्रभाव से देवों ने द्वारिका नगरी की रचना की, सब नगर के बीचों-बीच कृष्ण जी का अठारह खण्ड का सर्वतोभद्र नामक महल बनाया और समुद्रविजय आदि दस भाईयों का आठ खण्ड का महल बनाया, कृष्णजी के साढ़े तीन करोड़ कुमार रणविद्या में कुशल थे, वे कृष्णजी जरासन्ध से कैसे जीते जा सकते थे।

The workings of karma — When Krishna slew Kansa, Kansa's wife Jivadyasha went to her father Jarasandha, the Prati-Narayana, and said that in his very presence Krishna had killed a husband like Kansa and a wrestler like Chanura. Hearing this, Jarasandha's fury blazed up. He ordered his son to destroy the Yadava clan, but the son was killed facing Krishna. Then Jarasandha commanded his younger brother Aparajita, who too was slain in battle with Krishna. Now Jarasandha himself set out to destroy the Yadavas. When news reached Vasudeva, Samudravijaya and the others, weighing Jarasandha's might they resolved to leave Mathura and dwell in the forests — and though Neminatha had already been born, they still had to leave Mathura. Jarasandha marched with his army along the very road where the Yadavas were hiding. The Yadavas began preparing for war to face the advancing enemy; with this resolve Samudravijaya, Ugrasena, Vasudeva and the ten brothers made ready. Then a god, by his powers, conjured hundreds of blazing funeral pyres and, taking the form of a weeping old woman, began to cry. Seeing the burning pyres, Jarasandha asked whose they were and why she wept. The old woman said the Yadava kings had fled Mathura and hidden in this forest for fear of him, but since he had come here, all the Yadavas had burned to death in these fires; her husband too had died among them; she was a maidservant of the Yadava kings, and unable to enter the fire, she wept. Hearing this, Jarasandha returned to his own city. Meanwhile, by the influence of Neminatha and Krishna, the gods created the city of Dwarka; at its very centre they built Krishna's eighteen-storey palace named Sarvatobhadra and an eight-storey palace for Samudravijaya and the ten brothers. Krishna's three and a half crore princes were skilled in warfare — how could Jarasandha ever defeat them?
