पुण्य झड़ता-पाप गड़ता- पाप काँटे की तरह है, पुण्य फूल की तरह है, काँटे को किसान बुद्धि पूर्वक जला देता है, फूल स्वयं झड़ जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार पाप को साधु बुद्धि पूर्वक छोड़ देता है, पुण्य की निर्जरा चौदहवें गुण स्थान के अन्त में स्वयं हो जाती है।

Merit falls off, sin sticks fast — Sin is like a thorn, merit like a flower. The farmer deliberately burns the thorn, while flowers drop off on their own. Just so, the saint deliberately abandons sin, whereas merit sheds itself automatically at the end of the fourteenth stage of spiritual development.
