वने रणे शत्रु जलाग्निमध्ये, महार्णवे पर्वतमस्तके वा। सुप्तं प्रमत्तं विषमस्थितं वा, रक्षन्ति पुण्यानि पुरा कृतानि।।
'वन में' राम के लिए यक्ष के द्वारा रामपुरी की रचना। 'रण में' खरदूषण से युद्ध मे विराधित विद्याधर के द्वारा लक्ष्मण का सहयोग। 'शत्रु विद्याधर रावण से' भूमिगोचरी राम की विजय। 'जल में' पोटली बनाकर फेंक दिए जाने पर देवों द्वारा यमपाल चाण्डाल के लिए सिंहासन की रचना। 'अग्नि के मध्य में' सीता के अग्नि कुण्ड को देवों द्वारा जल कुण्ड मे परिवर्तित करना। 'समुद्र में' श्रीपाल जी को धवल सेठ द्वारा गिरा दिए जाने पर भी रक्षा होना। 'वंशस्थ पर्वत पर' श्री कुलभूषण-देशभूषण जी का श्री राम-लक्ष्मण जी के द्वारा उपसर्ग निवारण। 'सुप्त अवस्था में' सर्प से नेवले द्वारा बालक की रक्षा। 'प्रमत्त अवस्था में' पूर्व के उपकृत जटायु एवं कृतान्तवक्त्र के जीव देवों द्वारा श्री राम का सहयोग। 'विषम स्थिति में' पाण्डवों की लाखा महल से रक्षा एवं प्रतिसूर्य विद्याधर ने अञ्जना को वन में बहन बनाकर सहायता की और हनुरुह द्वीप ले गया। इन सभी स्थितियों में पूर्वकृत पुण्य ने रक्षा की।
In forest, in battle, amid enemies, water and fire, in the great ocean or on a mountain-top, asleep, heedless or in danger — merit earned before protects one. 'In the forest,' a yaksha built Rama-puri for Rama. 'In battle,' the wounded Vidyadhara aided Lakshmana against Khara-Dushana. Ground-dwelling Rama's victory over the enemy Vidyadhara Ravana. 'In water,' when Yamapala the outcaste was tied in a bundle and thrown, gods fashioned a throne for him. 'Amid fire,' gods turned Sita's fire-pit into a pool of water. 'In the sea,' Shripala was saved though thrown down by Dhavala the merchant. 'On Mount Vamshastha,' Rama and Lakshmana removed the calamity befalling Kulabhushana and Deshabhushana. 'While asleep,' a mongoose saved a child from a snake. 'While heedless,' the souls of the once-obliged Jatayu and Kritantavaktra, as gods, aided Rama. 'In peril,' the Pandavas were saved from the lac palace, and the Vidyadhara Pratisurya sheltered Anjana in the forest as a sister and carried her to Hanuruh island. In all these situations, merit earned earlier gave protection.
