डॉक्टर या डाकू- माँ बेटे को डाकू भी और डॉक्टर भी बना सकती है, घड़ा जब तक कच्चा है, तब तक चोट सहता है, पकने के बाद नहीं, एक बच्चे ने स्कूल से पेन चुरा लिया, घर आया तो माँ ने मुस्करा दिया, माँ की मुस्कराहट से वह आगे चलकर डाकू बन गया, फाँसी की सजा हुयी, अन्तिम इच्छा माँ के दर्शन की प्रकट की, माँ जैसे ही पास में आयी लड़के ने उसकी नाक काट दी, पूँछा ऐसा क्यों किया? उसने कहा मुझे माँ ने डाकू बनाया है, इसलिये फाँसी मेरी नही इनको होना चाहिए, जिस दिन मैं पेन चुराकर लाया था, तब माँ ने डाँटा नहीं मुस्कराया था, अगर उसी दिन डांटा होता तो मैं दुबारा चोरी करने का साहस नहीं कर सकता था।

'Doctor or dacoit' — a mother can make her son either a dacoit or a doctor; while the pot is unbaked it can bear correction, not after. A boy stole a pen from school; when he came home his mother smiled, and because of that smile he grew up to become a dacoit. Sentenced to hang, his last wish was to see his mother; as she came near he bit off her nose. Asked why, he said, 'My mother made me a dacoit, so it is she, not I, who should hang; the day I stole the pen she did not scold me but smiled — had she scolded me that day, I would never have dared to steal again.'
