पेड़, पशु और मनुष्य में अन्तर- पेड़ के पास न तो गति है और न ही दिशा, पशु के पास गति तो है लेकिन दिशा नहीं, पर मनुष्य के पास गति भी है और दिशा भी, अतः मनुष्य सम्पूर्ण है, पशु कभी उसी जीवन में इंसान नहीं बन सकता, पर इंसान कभी भी उसी जीवन में पशु बन सकता है, मनुष्य में प्रभु और पशु दोनों बनने की सम्भावना है, मनुष्य एक सीढ़ी है, एक ही सीढ़ी ऊपर चढ़ने के भी काम आती है और नीचे उतरने के भी काम आती है।

The difference between a tree, an animal and a human: a tree has neither movement nor direction, an animal has movement but no direction, but a human has both movement and direction, so the human is complete. An animal can never become human within that same life, but a human can become an animal within this very life. In man lies the possibility of becoming both God and beast; man is a staircase that serves both for climbing up and for descending.
