लालनात् बहवोदोषास्ताडनाद् बहवो गुणाः। तस्मात् पुत्रं च शिष्यं च ताडयेत् न तु लालयेत्।।

संतान और शिष्य को लाड़ करने से उनमें बहुत दोष उत्पन्न हो जाते हैं और प्रताड़ित करने से उनमें बहुत गुण उत्पन्न होते हैं इसलिए पुत्र और शिष्य को यथासम्भव प्रताड़ित करना चाहिए लाड़ नहीं।

Pampering breeds many faults in children and pupils, while correction breeds many virtues; therefore one should discipline a son and a pupil rather than indulge them.
