जो साधर्मी पर आपत्ति आने पर भी सोता रहता है, कुछ प्रतिकार नहीं करता है, वह समस्त सम्पत्ति से वञ्चित रहता है, क्योंकि अर्हन्तदेव ने वैय्यावृत्य को बाह्य और अभ्यन्तर तपों का हृदय कहा है, अर्थात् शरीर में जो स्थिति हृदय की है वही स्थिति तपों में वैयावृत्य की है।

One who keeps sleeping even when calamity befalls a co-religionist, doing nothing in remedy, remains deprived of all wealth; for Arhantdev has called service (vaiyavritya) the heart of both external and internal austerities - that is, the place the heart holds in the body, service holds among the austerities.
