छिलका और चावल- 'जिस शरीर में धर्म के साधक जीव का निवास है, उस शरीर की रक्षा बड़े यत्न से करना चाहिए' इस प्रकार की शिक्षा जिनागम का ऊपरी छिलका है, और 'देह त्यागने योग्य ही है' यह शिक्षा जिनागम का चावल है, असली बाह्य परिग्रह तो शरीर ही है, उससे भी जो ममत्व नहीं करता वही परम निर्ग्रन्थ है और इन्द्रियों की विषयाभिलाषा अन्तरङ्ग परिग्रह है।

Husk and rice - the teaching 'the body in which a soul striving for Dharma dwells should be protected with great care' is the outer husk of the Jain scriptures, while the teaching 'the body is fit only to be given up' is the rice. The real external possession is the body itself; one who feels no attachment even to it is a supreme nirgrantha, and the sensual craving of the senses is internal possession.
