देहेनिर्ममता गुरौविनमता, नित्यंश्रुताभ्यासता, चारित्रोज्ज्वलता महोपशमता, संसारनिर्वेगता। अन्तर्बाह्य परिग्रह त्यजनता, धर्मज्ञता साधुता, साधोसाधुजनस्य लक्षणमिदं, संसार विक्षेपणं।।

शरीर में निर्ममत्व, गुरु में विनय, नित्य श्रुताभ्यास, उज्ज्वल चारित्र, अत्यन्त शान्ति, संसार से वैराग्य, अन्तरङ्ग बहिरङ्ग परिग्रह का त्याग, धर्म का ज्ञाता, साधु का साधुओं ने यह संसार का नाश करने वाला लक्षण बताया है।

Non-attachment to the body, humility before the guru, constant study of scripture, luminous conduct, deep tranquillity, detachment from the world, renunciation of both inner and outer possessions, and knowledge of dharma — the sages have declared these to be the marks of a true saint, marks that destroy worldly bondage.
