एक सज्जन अत्यन्त गरीब थे, एक दिन बाजार से गुजर रहे थे, कोई व्यक्ति अत्यन्त उपयोगी दो पुस्तकें बेच रहा था, उसके पास पैसे नहीं थे, उधार देने को वह तैयार नहीं हुआ, अत: अपना कुर्ता गिरबी रख कर वे पुस्तकें खरीद लाये, चार छह दिन बाद जब पैसे आये तब कुर्ता बापस ले आये, क्या हम में ऐसी ज्ञान की ललक है? उन्होंने कुर्ता को नहीं, ज्ञान को कीमती समझा, हम धन रखने के लिए तिजोरियाँ खरीदते हैं, कार के लिये गैरिज बनवाते हैं, ड्राइवर रखते हैं, क्या कभी तत्त्व ज्ञान की पुस्तकें खरीदतें हैं व शास्त्रों के लिए अलमारी खरीदते हैं?

A gentleman was extremely poor. One day, passing through the market, he saw someone selling two very useful books. He had no money, and the seller would not give credit, so he pawned his own shirt and bought the books; four to six days later, when he had money, he redeemed his shirt. Do we have such a craving for knowledge? He valued knowledge over his shirt. We buy safes to store wealth, build garages for our cars, keep drivers — but do we ever buy books of true knowledge or a cabinet for the scriptures?
