जिसने व्याकरण नहीं पढ़ा है वह ज्ञान नेत्र से हीन, जन्मान्धवत् है,जो न्यायशास्त्र से रहित है वह तर्कशास्त्र के कहने में असमर्थ है अत: मूकवत् है, जो साहित्य से रहित है वह साहित्य सदन में प्रवेश पाने में पद विहीन है अत: वह पङ्गू है और जो शब्दकोष से रहित है वह निर्धन है।

One who has not studied grammar lacks the eye of knowledge and is as if born blind; one without logic cannot argue and is as if mute; one without literature cannot enter the hall of letters and is as if lame; and one without a lexicon is as if destitute.
