प्रत्येक व्रत की पाँच-पाँच भावनाओं का पालन नहीं करना चारित्र का मल है, सम्यक्त्व का मल शंकादि दोष हैं, ज्ञान का मल संशय, विपर्यय और अनध्यवसाय है, तप का मल प्राणियों और इन्द्रियों के विषय में संयम का अभाव है।

Failing to observe the five reflections of each vow is a taint of conduct; the taints of right faith are doubt and the like; the taints of knowledge are uncertainty, error and indecision; the taint of austerity is the lack of restraint toward living beings and the senses.
