जो आत्मा के स्वरूप को जानने में कुशल व निपुण है, उनके तप व संयम होता है, समभावी के वैराग्य होता है, शास्त्र पढ़ने वाले के तप, संयम, वैराग्य; तीनों होते हैं, अत: शास्त्र अवश्य पढ़ना चाहिए।

Those skilled in knowing the nature of the soul have austerity and restraint, the equanimous have detachment; but one who studies scripture has all three—austerity, restraint and detachment—so one must certainly study the scriptures.
