राजा, प्रधान श्रावक और साधु का मरण होने पर, ग्रहण आदि के समय तथा पर्व के दिनों में सिद्धान्त ग्रन्थों को नहीं बांचना चाहिए। अमावस्या और पूर्णिमा का पाठ गुरु घातक है, चतुर्दशी का पाठ शिष्य घातक है, अष्टमी का पाठ दोनों का घातक है और प्रतिपदा पाठ का घात करने वाली है।

On the death of a king, chief layman or saint, at times of eclipse, and on festival days, one should not read the doctrinal scriptures. Reading on the new moon and full moon harms the guru, on the fourteenth harms the disciple, on the eighth harms both, and the first lunar day harms the reading itself.
