पाँच वर्ष तक पुत्र को प्यार करना चाहिए, उसके बाद दस वर्ष तक पुत्र को दंड आदि देकर अच्छे मार्ग पर चलने को प्रेरित करना चाहिए और सोलह वर्ष के बाद पुत्र को मित्र की भाँति व्यवहार करना चाहिए।
