विषयों की उम्र होती है कषायों की उम्र नहीं होती है अर्थात् विषय थोड़ी देर भोगे जाते, कषाय लम्बे समय तक माँगती रहती।

Sense-pleasures have a limited span, but the passions do not; that is, pleasures are enjoyed only briefly, while the passions keep craving for long.
