प्रायः समस्त प्रकार की उपाधि का मूल यह शरीर है, यह ही संसार में भटकाने वाला है, सभी को सबसे अधिक ममत्व अपने शरीर से होता है, साधु बनकर शरीर का गुलाम बनने वाले जीव के लिए नरक व पशु ये ही दो गतियाँ हैं।

The root of nearly every kind of affliction is this body; it alone makes one wander in the world. Everyone feels the greatest attachment for their own body. For the being who becomes a monk yet remains a slave to the body, only two destinies remain — hell and the animal realm.
