'तृष्णा' सबसे बढ़कर पापिष्ठ तथा नित्य उद्वेग करने वाली बताई गई है, उसके द्वारा प्रायः अधर्म ही होता है, वह अत्यन्त भयंकर पाप रूपी गड्ढे में डालने वाली है, जहाँ-जहाँ 'तृष्णा' है वहाँ-वहाँ संसार है।

Craving is said to be the most sinful and forever agitating force; through it mostly unrighteousness arises, and it casts one into a terrible pit of sin—wherever there is craving, there is worldly bondage.
