आशा मनुष्यों की कोई आश्चर्यमयी शृंखला है, जिससे बँधे हुए मनुष्य तो दौड़ लगाते हैं तथा उससे मुक्त व्यक्ति पंगु के समान स्थिर रहते हैं अर्थात् आशावान को दौड़ धूप करना पड़ती है।

Hope is some wondrous chain of men: those bound by it keep running about, while those free of it stay still as the lame—that is, the hopeful must toil and run about.
