पञ्चपरमेष्ठी की वन्दना के नामान्तर जिस अक्षर समूह से या परिणाम से या क्रिया से आने वाले कर्मों का नाश होता है, उसे कृतिकर्म कहते हैं, जिससे तीर्थंङ्कर आदि पुण्य कर्म का सञ्चय होता है उसे चितिकर्म कहते हैं, जिससे अर्हन्त आदि की पूजा की जाती है, उसे पूजाकर्म कहते हैं, जिससे कर्मों का संक्रमण, उदय, उदीरणा आदि होकर निराकरण किया जाता है, उसे विनयकर्म कहते हैं, ये सब वन्दना के नामान्तर है, जो मुमुक्षु कर्मों की निर्जरा करना चाहते हैं, उन्हें मोक्ष हेतुक विनय अवश्य करना चाहिए।

Among the synonyms for veneration of the Five Supreme Beings: that by which incoming karmas are destroyed through a group of syllables, a mental state or an act is called kriti-karma; that by which meritorious karma such as Tirthankar-nature is accumulated is called chiti-karma; that by which the Arihanta and others are worshipped is called puja-karma; that by which karmas are transmuted, brought to fruition or premature fruition and thereby removed is called vinaya-karma—these are all synonyms of veneration; those seekers of liberation who wish to shed karmas must certainly perform veneration for the sake of liberation.
