णमोकारमन्त्र के एक अक्षर का भी भक्ति पूर्वक नाम लेने से सात सागर के पाप कट जाते हैं, पाँच अक्षरों का उच्चारण करने से पचास सागर के पाप कट जाते हैं तथा पूर्ण मन्त्र का उच्चारण करने से पाँच सौ सागर के पाप कट जाते हैं। सागर का दृष्टान्त– १. सुमेरु पर्वत पर कोई चिड़िया आकर चोंच घिसे और सौ-सौ वर्ष बाद पुनः आ-आकर चिड़िया एक-एक बार चोंच घिसे ऐसा करने पर जितने समय में सुमेरु पर्वत पूरा घिस जाये उससे भी बड़ा एक सागर का काल होता है। २. समुद्र के एक ओर जुआँरी डाली जाए और दूसरी ओर से सेल डाला जाये, जितने समय में लहराते-लहराते जुआँरी सेल में अपने आप घुस जाये उससे भी बड़ा एक सागर का काल होता है।

By devotedly uttering even one syllable of the Namokar Mantra, the sins of seven saagars are cut away; by uttering five syllables, the sins of fifty saagars; and by uttering the full mantra, the sins of five hundred saagars are cut away. The illustration of a saagar: (1) If a bird comes to Mount Sumeru and grazes it once with its beak, then returns every hundred years to graze once more, the time in which the entire mountain would be worn away is less than one saagar. (2) If a wooden peg is set on one side of the ocean and a needle on the other, the time in which the peg, drifting on the waves, would slip by itself onto the needle is less than one saagar.
